Middle School Graffiti Drawings

Students explored the stylistic use of letters found in graffiti art, and created glue drawings on black paper. They used chalk pastels to thoughtfully create blended color combinations.

Middle School Contour Drawings

Middle school students learned about blind contour drawings and practiced drawing their hands and a flower without looking at their paper. They applied what they learned to a final drawing on black paper and used construction paper crayons to create warm and cool color compositions.

Middle School Abstract Expressionistic Sculptures

Students learned about the history of abstract expressionism. They spent one day creating painted paper using splattered tempera paint. Then they used stencils to cut out a variety of shapes, and created a layered paper relief sculpture.

Middle School Micrography Portfolios

Students were inspired by Arabic calligraphy to use words to create a portfolio design . They began with four sketches, focusing on the composition itself. After creating a word bank, they sketched their final design on the portfolio and used markers to add words to their pieces.

Middle School Wabi-Sabi Tea Bowls

Students studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony and discovered how it exemplifies the aesthetic idea of wabi-sabi. Clay was used to create pinch pot tea bowls, with extra attention paid to the foot and lip of the bowl.
